Interesting Non-Applications

Non-Applications

Interesting Non-Applications

Introduction

Here are some interesting non-applications I might start using some day (some favorite programs also listed here). I have tested most of the programs listed here to find out on which platform they work or don't work. I'm mentioning one or two authors or a company for a program, so I can use a search engine to find more info about the program. To save my time and space on this page I'm not usually mentioning any program version numbers as I would need to create a list for each OS version separately. See also: Interesting Websites, Interesting Browser Add-Ons, Interesting Devices, Software.

Markings

Programs marked with (Y) means programs that are good (as in "yes"), but I don't necessarily install them to save hard disk space and to avoid updating programs and related software packages I don't use much or at all.

Programs marked with (F) are my favorite programs or they get the job done.

Programs marked with (S) are showcase programs to demonstrate how far for example the Linux operating system has gone in features.

Marking (D) means the program might be default software that will be installed with the operating system.

Marking (C) means program is a classic, like a classic game.

Marking (N) means I have tried a program and didn't like it (as in "no") or there's another program that does it better.

Marking (not working: computer xx: reason) means a program doesn't generally work with my computer xx, because of reason yy.

Marking (not working fully: computer xx) means a program is not fully working with my computer xx, for example it didn't download additional packages as it should have.
