Media Player Application Settings
Media Player Application Settings
Introduction
Here are some of my media player application settings including tips. See also: Media Player Device Settings (iPod, etc.), Programs, Operating Systems, Software.
Convert to Other Formats
DivX Converter (trial version) (OS X 10.8)
To: AVI (the only possible format in the trial version)
Final Cut Pro 7 (OS X 10.8)
To: AVI, DIVX, MKV, WMV
DivX Plug-in (DivX Player)
Disable the DivX plug-in in all browsers after installing the DivX Player (OS X). You can enable it later if you need it.
Listen to Net Radio Stream
VLC Media Player 2 (OS X)
With a search engine, search for [listen stream asx].
Example stream: http://livestream.cprnetwork.org/wmp/listenNews.asx (May 2016)
VLC Media Player: File, Open Network. Copy-paste the stream you are interested in. Open.
QuickTime Problem: "Recording Stopped"
OS X's energy saving and related settings like App Nap can cause problems, so try the following.
OS X 10.11: Settings: Desktop & Screen Saver: Start after: [Never].
OS X 10.11: Settings: Energy Saver: [ ] Automatic graphics switching.
OS X 10.11: Settings: Energy Saver: [ ] Put hard disks to sleep when possible.
Google Music Manager (OS X 10.8)
Upload
[x] Automatically upload songs added to iTunes (enabling this seems to make the uploading faster)
Advanced
"Bandwidth available for uploading:" "[1024 kbps]"
"Fastest possible" = in practise 130 KB/s = 1040 kbps (12/2013), can't do other things online.
"128 kbps (Slowest)" = in practise 120 KB/s = 960 kbps (12/2013), almost the same as the fastest speed and 7.5 times faster than 128 kbps as promised!
iMovie '09 (OS X 10.8)
Add Event
File, Import, Movies, Create new Event (for example "Event 001")
iTunes
Spotify 1.0 (OS X 10.11)
Comments
Sound is better with Mac Pro with Hardware Accelerator turned off. Other apps are also less sluggish.
Spotify 0.8 (OS X 10.7)
Comments
Comment: if you want to get rid of "Failed to enable Spotify Social" message, try "File": "Log Out" instead of "Disconnect from Facebook" or instead of changing your Facebook password.
