Fedora Installation Settings

Introduction

Here are some of my Fedora installation settings. See also: **Create Disc Image**, Driver Installation Settings, Operating System Settings, Operating System Installation Times, Operating System Requirements, Operating System Startup Times.

Fedora 13 (Goddard) (GNOME 2)

Language: English (United States).

Note to myself: turn off screensaver at this point.

Install to Hard Drive icon:

Please select the drives you'd like to install the operating system on:

Comments: with Wings desktop I have problems partitioning with Linux (maybe unsupported hardware), so I have created a partition for Windows with Windows 7 and left free space for Linux.

Fedora 15 (Lovelock) (Xfce 4)

Note: After installation when updating first update all except fedora-release-15-3, then update fedora-release-15-3, but press + and uncheck fedora-release-rawhide-15-3.

Note: I don't recommend GNOME3 for SOT computer, because it's too old. Instead, use Xfce.

Note: For me it was easier to install Fedora 15 Desktop Edition 32-bit (i686, CD-RW) than Fedora 15 DVD 32-bit (i386, DVD). With SOT computer keyboard and mouse are not recognized with DVD installation disc.

Note: If you are upgrading from Fedora 13, simply use the Fedora 15 installation disc to upgrade without updating Fedora 13 first (slow connection with SOT computer).

Note: Clean installation failed to SOT computer after updating Fedora 15. Installation failed also by installing over Fedora 13.

Note: Installation to SOT computer was a success with Fedora 15 Xfce, but after installing ATI drivers (aticonfig) the screen went nuts.

Note: Fedora 15 LXDE is uglier than Fedora 15 Xfce.

Note: Screen goes blank for a while when booting Fedora 15 Xfce.

Select the hard drive icon (there should be only one if you used Windows to format the HDD with no additional partitions).

(*) Automatically configure my Fedora installation to the disk(s) I selected and return to the main menu, select Continue

Fedora 19 Installation (again here)

Press Begin Installation.

Gedit

Search for gedit.

Launch gedit.

With gedit test your keyboard so that your password(s) actually contain what you wanted.

Press Quit.

Live System User

Power Off: Restart

(Fedora starts)

You see a list of interface languages: you can keep the "English (United States)".

Press Next.

Select "Finnish", select Next.
