I’m working on a book with Dan Gardner (www.dangardner.ca) that draws heavily from the story of Wikipedia. Our central question is simple: How can strangers collaborate, trust each other, and create something valuable and reliable? Trust is the key theme here.

Wikipedia's community relies on the five foundational pillars, which help maintain the trust within the community and ensure the accuracy that readers rely on. Dan and I will be focusing on these pillars, and we need your input to do it justice.

We want to hear your thoughts and, most importantly, your experiences.

Here’s what we’re looking for:

On “Civility and Respect” and “Neutral Point of View”:

Social media often sees strangers in conflict, which is unproductive and negative. While Wikipedia also has its share of conflicts, Wikipedians manage these better, largely due to the “Civility and Respect” and “Neutral Point of View” pillars.

What are your thoughts? What experiences have you had? How do Wikipedians resolve differences? Have you worked well with people holding very different views from your own? How? How do you handle editing articles on divisive subjects like politics, abortion, or war? Have you successfully collaborated with people who have opposing views on such topics?

On “No Firm Rules”:

Despite Wikipedia’s many detailed policies, the pillar of “No Firm Rules” stands out.

Has this principle helped you work together and find constructive solutions? What happened?

We’re emphasizing your personal experiences because, as the saying goes, “Show, don’t tell.” We want to illustrate how these pillars function in practice through real stories—both successes and failures.

I’m working on a book with Dan Gardner (www.dangardner.ca) that draws heavily from the story of Wikipedia. Our central question is simple: How can strangers collaborate, trust each other, and create something valuable and reliable? Trust is the key theme here.

Wikipedia's community relies on the five foundational pillars, which help maintain the trust within the community and ensure the accuracy that readers rely on. Dan and I will be focusing on these pillars, and we need your input to do it justice.

We want to hear your thoughts and, most importantly, your experiences.

Social media often sees strangers in conflict, which is unproductive and negative. While Wikipedia also has its share of conflicts, Wikipedians manage these better, largely due to the “Civility and Respect” and “Neutral Point of View” pillars.
