Surrealism

Artist's Statement:

(both pieces were made in my HONORS foundations sketchbook)

the assignment was to create a collage and then use it as a reference for a painting.  I chose a portrait subject because of the emotion I would be able to express through it. 

I did both of these in my HONORS foundations notebook, using gessoed paper and then glue and mixed media and acrylic respectively. for the painting, I experimented with texture by using different brush techniques, while for the collage I used different textures like sandpaper and canvas to create depth.

At first, I thought I would replicate the collage directly, exactly the same. In the end, I changed the circles in the midground, making them different colors and textures than the collage.
