Idea Generation: I used my FHS given notebook to sketch out some ideas for both of these logos, experimenting with which media flows with my brain best: pen or graphite pencil

Artist's Statement:
The ideas took some time to form, as you can tell by the multiple sketches I have made for each of the logos. I started out with my lipstick logo. I used the general shape of a tube of lipstick, and tried to incorporate the words into that form. then I transitioned to thinking that maybe I should put the words on lips, like the words themselves are lipstick. I then moved back to the idea of putting the words on the tube, and the idea evolved into the current product I have now. I had a very different idea generation process for my FHS logo. I had already made a logo/design for The Clarion, last year (see top image on the right) and so I knew that I wanted to have something similar as a logo for The Clarion. I also debated making a logo for the civil rights team, and the FHS library.
I at first used only pen with my idea generation, which was a little limiting, so I then transitioned to using both pen and pencil. Later, for the FHS logo, I started out using only pencil. Of course, for the finalized version, I used pen, and filled in all my fill spaces properly. I used pen instead of sharpie because I reasoned that sharpie would give me less control, and I wanted to keep my edges clean.
My process was very involved. I used first idea generation to get a miniature finalized sketch of what I wanted, and then enlarged it and made it more finished. after all this, I photographed it, and pushed the contrast in that photograph so that there would be no reflective bits, and the black would be dark and the white very bright. the next step I took was to upload it to photoshop, and clean up the designs. I ended up with finished products and have clean edges and clear writing. (see middle and bottom images on the right for the original edited photographs )
