independent project

Artist's Statement:

For our last project we could chose to make whatever we wanted. I wanted to make a mug, because I gave the last one I made to my sister, and don't have one for myself. I also wanted to experiment with the whole pressing natural materials into clay idea more. I made the mug using slab construction, and made the handle slightly lumpy to make it interesting to grip.

i wanted to have interesting texture, and I tried to have it shine thought, so I used flambe glaze, to try to make it pop. I liked the color that flambe has, so I wanted to use that.I also tried to balance out the roughness of the texture with a funky handle, and that would match the kind of haphazard texture of the plants.

It ended up that the texture didn't show up as much as I would have liked, but I did get some very good color, and in the end I am happy with the final project. One thing that I would have done differently however would be to use a better glaze, and make it so the texture shows up better.
