tree tunnel & abstract people

Artist's Statement:

Tree tunnel is about that feeling of light at the end of the tunnel, and hope for the future. When I made it I was imagining the gnarled trees that have been through it, and still are alive and growing, and living in the forest. it was made on top of a canvas that already had a lot of texture, which I wanted to accentuate.

These were both made in my grandmother's studio, and came with a lot of her guidance, especially abstract people. Tree tunnel is a little bit more of my own composition.

Abstract people is about that feeling of dancing, and all the people in the city, and how they are all beautiful and strange. I made it so that there would be many different figures form many different markes, and things that would appear if you looked closly at them, like boats, and buildings, and trees. It was very liberating to make, but I had to put a lot of thought into each mark. it was made on top of an old canvas that my grandmother has already put some paint on, so that was how I chose my palette.
