Reflection:

One thing that I really think is valuable that I learned in this class is taking one theme and going with it. I think that doing the sustained investigation really helped me to learn what it would be like making a series of works, and the brainstorming process that goes with that. Another thing that was valuable that I learned is some of the principles of design and elements of art. It really helped me to apply these to my own work. I am always noticing now how I can push the contrast more, or how I can compose something in a manner that stands out.

I think that I have been most successful in adding a little bit more to my art. I noticed that in the past, I would often stop at the sketch phase, and would not add color, or contrast at all. I have started to do that less now I think, and am going further with my projects, and also getting better at the planning stages. I know that previously I would just come up with an idea, but now I have learned how to actually brainstorm, and come up with several diffrent ideas, and then chose the best one. All in all, I think that it is this going a little farther than has been both the thing that I have succeeded most at, and also the thing that pushed me to do better.

One of the things that I struggled most with was getting my work done on time. I found that I would get too caught up in the planning stages, and that I would then have to rush the final product itself to get it done on time. One thing that I think that I can do to improve this is to pre-plan the next project along with the first one, so that I can get ahead. Another thing that helps with this time management is choosing to go with the most effective idea. This means not necessarily choosing the option that is the most elaborate, just because it is elaborate, but instead choosing the option that is simple but effective.

Some of my artistic goals going forward are to improve on my time management, and to also continue to do art, hopefully every day. I find that when I do art everyday, I get better much faster, and also have better creativity. I think that just taking to time to do a little bit of art every day would really help in also improving my technical skills. I also would like to improve how I manage the time I spend making art. I find that sometimes when I'm in the zone, I don't want to stop, so it is important to either schedule that ahead of time, or get over that mental block of thinking that my technique or style will change and I won't be able to make it coherent with what I already started out with.
