Artist's Statement:

This was a pretty difficult assignment for me, since I am much more used to photographing things that stay still and have no objections to being photographed. I made sure that when photographing these people I asked permission, but at times it was awkward, since people reacted oddly to the idea of being photographed. I think that most people act differently when they know they have a camera pointed at them.

I really liked taking these photos however, because I got to think about how to show people's experiences. I also liked having to think of creative ways to show a person rather than just straight on from the front. I also wanted to capture people just being themselves, which I think that I succeeded in.

One thing that I would have done differently is that I would have made the photo of Graci and the contact sheed darker initially. especially the photo of Graci, since I was able to adjust the levels on the contact sheet so that it was dark enough.
