What does vandalism look like?
Artist's Statement:
The goal of this Sustained Investigation was to document vandalism. I later developed it into inserting myself somethow into the photo, to show how I realte to the vandlism as well, and make you question who was the vandal , and their humanity. I started with going under train bridges. I thought that the art there was very cool, and sometimes you could see the peeling layers of paint from all the years of graffiti.
One of the things that I enjoyed most about this project was that it made me look at graffiti differently. I would consider where it was placed and how I would be able to take a good photo of it. I would be forced to look for graffiti, instead of ignoring it. I think that it was really fun to do this, since i gained a new perspective. It also made me hike to odd places, which was also very fun.
One thing that i might have done differently would have been to go to more places, so far I only have around 4 location, and it would have been nice to document different places like abandoned bridges and such. I think that it is hard to do that however, because it would require more dedication, and driving to places instead of walking. I also might have considered doing more with the elements and priniciples of photography.
