Hands

Artist's Statement:

For this project, the assignment was to take a photo of hands. I chose to take a photo of my own hand, under water, which I thought would add more to the photo. I wanted to get a shot of water going over skin, because water changes the things that are under it. I like the way that the water makes highlights and increases the shadows.

I chose to do a pretty central composition, with the spout of the faucet coming from the top, because I wanted the palm to be supinating to you, and kind of beseeching you. There is a certain "Out out damned spot" feel to it. I like that it feels as if you are washing something off.

I edited the photo a little bit, upping the contrast, the brightness, the blackpoint, and things like that. I considered cropping it into rule of thirds, but I decided against it.
