Artist's Statement:

I read a graphic novel called "Through the Woods".
This was largely inspired by that. I think she might be drowning, or sleeping, or she might just be tired.

In this piece, I was trying to capture some of the illustrational qualities that I saw in graphic novels that I love. I think that there could easily be a story behind this piece, a story behind why she is tired, what the growths are that sprout from her shoulders and wrists. I deliberately chose to use only red and black, because I know that often illustration can use emphasizing colors, and I wanted to experiment with this. this is another example of my artistic practice, experimentation with many different mediums and techniques.
