Artist's Statement:

The idea for this project came from the stories of hungry wolves that I had heard as a kid. I wanted to show a girl who was also a wolf, who was also starving, and the animal hunger that this brings, and the human quality that it retains. I wanted to show this by having the claws fit into the ribs, making it like what was carving away the flesh there was the claws of starvation. I think that I associated starvation with a girl, because there is such an association between anorexia and girls, and there is a definite culture of girls starving themselves. I think that this plays into that a little bit, but it's not the main point.

I wanted to use a material that would be carved away, the way that hunger carves away at a person. I chose to use lino because it is a plasticy, and I felt that could relate to unnaturalness and could be a cause for hunger. I also wanted to use something that could be used to make prints, because I feel like hunger leaves an imprint on you, and I wanted to connect to that.

My proceeses included carving away the subject, which connects to the way hunger carves away at your body and your will. I also wanted to play with the idea of animal hunger, and how there can be human hunger and animal hunger and their similarities and differences. Somehting that I messed up was the legs, I didn't indednt to outline them and carve out the middle space, but thats what happened.
