Identity:Self
Artist's Statement:
The assignment was to create a self portrait without actually taking a photo of yourself. We were to do this by taking all the objects that we were carrying that we thought represented us, and then putting them together to make a kind of collage of our identity. I chose to do things that I had in my bag with me.
I like in particular the green and orange tones that this scan has, and the kind of washed out feel to it. I like it because it also feels a bit like those forensic images of what people had in their pockets when they were arrested or something.
The sumative was to take one of these photos at home, where we had access to more things. I chose to do an image of my earring tray, and an image of my makeup drawer.
I like these as a duo because their colors kind of go together as well, but I particularly like the earing photo, because of the metallic glint it has to it, and the way it looks like a treasure hoard. One thing that I slightly regret is the shadow in the jewelry photo, which detracts from it a bit.
