Artist's Statement:

For this project we took painters tape and made murals on the walls around the school. The idea was to focus more on patterns and straight lines, and therefore focus more on design principles. Since tape is in straight lines, this means that we would have to get creative if we wanted curves. Straight lines also ment that there should be an emphasis on patter. I had the idea of using this to create the illusion of 3 dimensionality.

The materials we used were painters tape. It was only available in blue so we would have to focus a lot on negative and positive space. Additionally, we could use siccors and exacto knives to help with straight lines. However, I chose to rip the tape to create a more natural look. this resulted in some unpriditability with the lines, which was very fun.

My process started out with outlining, and then working in the details. For the Dancing Woman, this meant doing the outline of the dress, and the face and limbs first, and then filling in details such as the hair and the patterns on the dress at a later date. For the falcon, it was a lot more freestyle, also because it was at a smaller scale. I had the smae prinicple of blocking out the outline and positive and negative space first, and then going in and filling in details like the feathers. This worked out well, since I was able to get the details to be precise and could use them to flesh out the form.
