Virginia Federal Censuses

All Womacks in US Federal Censuses for years 1790 through 1850 are abstracted here.

Note that VA 1790 Census included present-day Kentucky. The VA Censuses for 1790 through 1860 included present day West Virginia.

The summary tables for the 1790 Census are at the US Census Bureau, 1790 Census: Return of the Whole Number of Persons within the Several Districts of the United States.

Due to missing Federal Censuses, Virginia State Censuses and Virginia Tax Lists are very important records.

Note that although the census records themselves are missing, the totals of each column in each census are known for all counties and years,

The following Federal Census, 1790-1850, records for Virginia are missing:

  • 1830 - Richmond

In other census years from 1790 through 1850, Petersburg was enumerated with Dinwiddie County, and Richmond with Henrico County.
