Bean Family Research

See the Lowry Franklin Owens Memoir, written in 1951. This was originally how researchers knew Robert Bean's wife was Martha Womack, though corroborating evidence has also been found in the estate records of her uncle, William Womack.

  • 7 May 1790 - Robert Bean buys land in Franklin Co, GA. DB C:97b.

  • 21 Dec 1792 - Robert Bean & wife Martha sell land in Franklin Co, GA to Benjamin Barton. William Bean one of the witnesses. DB K:66.

  • 24 Feb 1794 - Robert Bean buys land from Joseph M Russell & wife Alcey. Part of 400 acres granted to Robert McGowan on Dick's Creek, a fork of Broad River, adjacent Gregg. Wit: Robert McGowan, John Bean. Proved by John Bean 6 Oct 1796. DB M:168.

  • 7 Oct 1801 - Samuel Bean sells slave Jonas to John Holland, witnessed by Robert Bean. DB NNN:89.

  • 24 Dec 1803 - Robert Bean buys land from John Dericott & wife Rebecca. Samuel Bean a witness. DB OO:109.

  • 22 Sep 1804 - Robert Bean & wife Martha of Franklin Co, GA sell land to Lemuel Bean. Wit: William Spradling, John Owen. DB OOO:92.

  • 6 Aug 1805 - Robert Bean & wife Martha of Rutherford Co, TN sell land to John Owen. DB P:60.

[NOTE: William, John and Samuel Bean who witnessed deeds for Robert Bean were not his sons. He didn't have a son named Samuel, and his sons William & John were not yet 14, the minimum age to witness, when the deeds were dated.]

    • Grant Book B:372 - warrant 3 Jan 1786, surveyed 17 Jan 1786, recorded 15 Mar 1786, Robert Bean 120 acres on the N side of Saluda River.

    • Grant Book C:214 - warrant 30 May 1787, surveyed 1 June 1787, recorded 5 June 1787, Robert Bean 52 acres N side of S fork Saluda River, one mile below the Mouth of Mathers Creek.
