(LDS Film # 007513672, image 104/636) 18 Oct 1756, John Artis [or Artie] of Edenton, Chowan Co, Province of NC, Pieruke [sic, peruke] maker [peruke was a powdered wig worn by men at the time] to John Wammock of Johnston Co, NC, planter, for 40#, land on Middle Creek in Johnston Co, 250 acres, surveyed 9 June 1749 and granted to said Artis by Edward Mossley Esquire. Signed John Artie. Witnesses William Weston, Daniel GoldSmith. Deed proved by Daniel Goldsmith 20 Oct 1756, Peter Henly clerk. “I am of the opinion that the above name Peter Henly is the handwrighting of the late Peter Henly Esqr - Chief Justice of this State this provence and that he was leaguly othorised to take probate of deeds for registering them.” Sam Ashe, clerk.
