Explanation: The table above is from a huge spreadsheet created by the US Census Bureau of every surname with more than 100 people in the US as of the 2000 Census. Surnames are ordered by number of people with that name. I include the top ten surnames for context. Smith is the most common surname, with over 2.3 million people in 2000. I also included all spelling variations of Womack in the spreadsheet. The "Womack" spelling is of course the most common, and is the 1194th most common name, with nearly 27,000 people. For each name, the Census Bureau has data in columns for the names rank, the number of people with that name, and percentages in racial and ethnic categories. In some cases, the cell has "(S)" in it, meaning the data was suppressed for privacy concerns, because there were so few people in a particular racial category that they could possibly be identified.
