Rowan County
Rowan County, 1771 Petition
See https://competitivestrategies.us/petition-calling-for-the-creation-of-burke-co-27-nov-1771/
Though nominally a "Rowan County" petition, this was actually from "the Inhabitants of the upper Settlement of the Catawba River, Yadkin River and three Cricks [sic]". Some of these people were inhabitant of Tryon (later Lincoln) Co, NC, including Abraham Womack, Barnett Lockman, and Matthias Fisher. Note that a Samuel Fisher had a 1786 survey for a land grant in Lincolon Co, NC, for which Archibald Blanton was a chain bearer; this survey bordered Sarah Lockerman/Lockman, widow of Barnett Lockman, per researchers of this family.

NOTE: William Womack has been called a "Tory" on the basis of this list; however this list was for those who had refused or neglected to take the oath, and I am certain many men fell into the "neglected" category. Some of the men on this list are known Patriots, including Laban Hartley (Revolutionary War Pension application S21269). Adam Swicegood, along with Laban Hartley were guards at the Salisbury District Gaol, 20 Sep 1778.
