One of the best resources for Puckett research is the book The roots and some of the branches of the Puckett family tree, by Christine South Gee, 1958.
John Pockett [sic], Land grant 27 Jan 1665 [probably OS, so 1666 NS], 500 acres in Henrico Co, Bristol Parish, adj William Baugh. Virginia Patent Book 5:589.
VA Patent Book 7:200 - Wm Pucket and Thomas Pucket, 20 Nov 1682, 757 acres in Henrico, including 500 acres granted to John Puckett by patent dated 7 Jan 1665 "any by his last will and testament given to his said sonns [sic] William and Thomas Puckett", the other 257 acres due them for the transportation of 6 persons, including Gild [?] Puckett. [This is probably Gilbert Puckett, possibly a cousin. This is the only record he appears in, so perhaps he died soon after arrival in VA.]
The Pucketts of Virginia descended from John Puckett. He died before 1 Sep 1677 (Henrico Co, VA WD 1677-1692:35), when his wife Anne was named executrix of his will; the actual will is no longer extant but mentioned in a few Henrico records. On 29 May 1679, an agreement was made between William Puckett, John Puckett, Thomas Puckett and Richard Womacke in right of his wife that they accept their shares of the estates of John Puckett and Ann his wife, recorded 2 June 1679 (Henrico Co, VA WD 1677-1692:90).
Mary (M) Womock aged about 22 years deposes that her brother John Puckett lived with her... 2 June 1679. Henrico Co, VA WD 1677-1692:99 (image 32). Mary's mark looks like a blocky letter "M". On the same day and same page, Thomas Puckett "aged 21 years or thereabouts" also deposed. Also on the same day and page, William Puckett "aged 22 years or thereabouts" deposed. On p.100, same day, Richard Womacke "aged about 24 years" deposed. And on p.104, 1 Aug 1679, John Puckett, "aged about 29 years" deposed.
John Puckett (Jr) was oldest but married last. He married Eliza Allen, license granted 18 Mar 1691 [OS, so 1692 NS], George Worsham security. WD 1688-1697:357 (image 442).
The other Puckett brothers, William and Thomas, appear to have married Womack sisters, Anne to William and Mary to Thomas.
The will of Thomas Womack (transcribed here) names numerous Pucketts: godson Thomas Pucket, "cousen" Elisabeth Puckett (cousin could mean any kind of non-first degree kin), "brother" Thomas Puckett (likely meaning brother-in-law), Mary Puckett daughter of Will Puckett, Frances Puckett daughter Thomas Puckett, and William Puckett (relationship not given). Others named were goddaughter Catherine Baugh, brother Abraham Womack, and John Granger. Signed 21 Jan 1697 [likely New Style, since it was proved 2 Aug 1697]. WD 1688-1697:716.
Note that Mary Womack, sister of Thomas married Thomas Puckett, and that John Granger was married to Mary Puckett, who had previously been married to Richard Womack. Mary Womack, after her marriage to Thomas Puckett, only appears in two known records: OB 1678-1693:287, Mary Puckett attended court for case of Saml Fowler Jr vs John Granger. WD 1688-1697:14 - Mary Puckett, aged about 26, 12 Oct 1688, deposes about incident at home of John & Mary Granger. There are no records directly proving Mary was the wife of Thomas Puckett; this is known by elimination. There is a record proving William Puckett's wife was Anne, and a marriage record for John Puckett to Eliza Allen. After the death of John Puckett Sr before Sep 1677, the only male Pucketts were John Jr, Thomas and William. There was also a Gilbert Puckett, whose transportation to America was paid for by William and Thomas Puckett, see record of VA Patent Book 7:200, above; this Gilbert appears in no other records.
Anne, wife of William Puckett, may have also been a Womack given the prominence of William Puckett and his children in Thomas Womack's will, and also the fact that Christine South Gee assigned Womack Puckett as the son of William Puckett. Anne Puckett, wife of William Puckett (not be confused with Anne, wife of John Puckett Sr), appears in only one known record: WD 1688-1697:3, 12 Oct 1688, Anne Puckett wife of William Puckett relinquishes dower on land sold by Wm Puckett, signed 2 Apr 1688, Anne Puckett (her mark).
Children of John and Ann Puckett:
John Puckett (born circa 1650) married Eliza Allen (married 1692 NS)
Mary Puckett (born circa 1657) married Richard Womack (born circa 1655)
William Puckett (born circa 1657) married Anne Womack
Thomas Puckett (born circa 1658) married Mary Womack (born circa 1662)
Determining the children of three Puckett brother is difficult.
Christine South Gee was unaware of the will of John Puckett (Jr), in Henrico Co, VA Miscellaneous Records, part 2, page 429 (LDS Film # 007898202, image 251/601). This is the original will, and is notable for the actual signatures of witnesses John Granger and Richard Womack (Jr). In it, John Puckett is styled as John Puckett Sr to distinguish from his son John. Will of John Puckett Sr of Bristol Parish, 12 May 1716, wife Elizabeth, sons John, Joseph, Timothy, Abraham; daughter Martha wife of Ricd Puckett [her first cousin, Richard Puckett], daughter Elizabeth Puckett, daughters Ann, Sarah, Judith; child wife is pregnant with. Wit: Jno Granger, Richard Womack. Probated 1 June 1719.
