Bristol Parish

Bristol Parish

Bristol Parish was part of the Church of England, the official church of Colonial Virginia.

Bristol Parish originally covered both side of the Appomattox River, originally in Henrico County on the north side and Charles City County on the south.  Prince George County formed in 1704 from Charles City County.  The Vestry Book of Bristol Parish recorded births and other records from the 1720s onwards.  The Puckett family lived on the Henrico (later Chesterfield Co) side.

On 31 May 1735, Dale Parish was formed, taking the part of Bristol Parish north of the Appomattox River, as well as that part of Henrico Parish (aka, Varina Parish) on the south side of the James River.  In other words, Dale Parish was most of what would become Chesterfield Co, VA in 1749, except a small part of northwest Chesterfield in King William Parish.  The Puckett family was then in Dale Parish, and their records stop in the Bristol Parish book, except for a 1757 record where Shippy Allen Puckett was fined for gambling in Prince George Co (see below).  Dale Parish in Chesterfield Co was divided in 1772 with the creation of Manchester Parish.

Births

Note: See my article on Old Style Dates.  Dates below that fall between January 1 and March 24, inclusive, should be viewed with caution.  Some have both the New and Old Style Year, and some don't.  For those that don't, I added '**'.  I 'normalized' all the birth dates to include the correct New Style Year.
