William Cawthon (1747 - 1811), of Franklin Co, GA was probably also a son of Charles Cawthon and and Elizabeth Womack, although W T Cawthon stated that his grandfather John Cawthon only had one brother, Claiborne Cawthon. It is likely W T Cawthon was mistaken. William Cawthon married Rhoda Payne, and his family is detailed in an appendix of The Cothern Clan, 3rd Edition.
Genealogy of William McBee, father of 1) James McBee who married Sarah Womack; and 2) Joanna McBee who married Robert Walters and had 4 children who married Cawthon siblings, children of Charles Cawthon and Elizabeth Womack.
Estate of William Womack
Elizabeth (Womack) Cauthorn [Cawthon] was named as an heir in the estate records of her uncle William Womack, who died with no children of his own.
Include in the papers of Asa Dupuy, a Virginia attorney who handled William Womack's estate, are three letters from Frederick Stevilie, who stated that he married a granddaughter of Elizabeth Womack Cawthon, though he doesn't state his wife's name, or her parents. Frederick Stevilie lived in Franklin Co, GA in the late 1790s and early 1800s, before relocating to Burke Co, NC. He continued to regularly visit Franklin Co, GA. His three letters to Asa Dupuy are typed out here.
Stevilie claimed that Elizabeth Womack Cawthon turned 90 on 12 Jan 1816, placing her birth date on 12 Jan 1726. In another section of Asa Dupuy's papers, he mistakenly wrote that Elizabeth Womack Cawthon turned 90 in 1812, but Stevilie actually said 1816.
