WOMACK.

Lived in Amelia, Prince Edward and adjoining counties; compiled from family tradition, letters from descendants and public records, April 1913, by Jean Stephenson, Ithaca, New York.

I. William Womack, born January 26th, 1736, died February 17, 1819; married, 1762, Mary Allen, born June 15, 1746, died June 8, 1816. In Halifax County is the marriage bond of William Womack to Mary Allen, daughter of James Allen, dated October 18, 1762. His surety on this bond was William Wright. He moved to Prince Edward County at an early date and is said to have been steward of John Randolph's affairs. Was ruling elder in the Presbyterian Church, 1795.

II. 1. John Womack, moved to North Carolina, married ____ Pryor. Member from Caswell County of Constitutional Convention 1788-9. Had sons: 1. Green, died 1856, married Ann McBryde, 1825, and had son John Archibald Womack, who lived in Chatham County, elder of Presbyterian Church, Commissioner to General Assembly of Church. Member of Legislature 1870-72, etc. 2. David, married _____, had at least one son P. H., who had son Thomas J. Womack. 3. Henry, moved to Tennessee, had children

by 1st marriage: Bedford and a daughter who married _____ Connolly. Children by second marriage not known at present.

II. 2. Tignal Womack, married Nancy Rudder July 7, 1795. Moved to Kentucky 1818. Died 1827.

II. 3. Allen Womack, born March 21, 1766, married Sallie Womack 1793. (She was his first cousin, daughter of Charles Womack, brother of William Womack). Moved to Pittsylvania County. Had several children, among them: 1. John, who married _____ Morley, and 2. Allen Watson, born November 27, 1801, married, 1st, Catherine W. Stone, born 1816; married, 2nd, in 1856, Arabella W. Carter, born 1818.

Among children were Emma and Charles A., who was born 1843 and married Mary Younger in 1865.

II. 4. Masseniello, or Massennetta, married Elizabeth Venable, daughter of Charles Venable, lived in Cumberland County, moved to Kentucky.

II. 7. James Watson Womack, born _____, died 1844, married _____, joined the Briery Church 1823, ordained elder March 29, 1828, elected trustee 1818, was in the Legislature from Prince Edward County. Had at least two sons: 1. Egbert, born 1817, and 2. Benjamin Watson, who married Oct. 12, 1836, Elizabeth Daniel, and had children, Elizabeth D., Violet J., James W., William D., Benjamin A. and Nathan B. Womack.

II. 8. Elizabeth Womack, married Baker Davidson July 3rd, 1795. Said to have married, 2nd, Charles Anderson Raine.

II. 9. Lillius D. Womack, married Sally, daughter of Adam Calhoun, Dec. 12, 1823; was elder at University Va. in 1839.

II. 10. Mary Womack, married Samuel Baldwin Sept. 16, 1799 (?)

II. 11. Nancy, married William Elliott. Briery records show that Ann, daughter of William Womack, married W

Raine.

II. 12. William Womack, settled in Botetourt County. Married there Mrs. Jane Kyle Poague. Their children were: 1. James Watson, died unmarried. 2. Joseph Kyle, died unmarried. 3. Marietta married Dr. Wm. Walkeef. 4. Sarah Ann, married Dr. _____ Payne, of Alleghany Co.

II. Arthur Womack, A. M., Rector of Lopham, Norfolk, 1578. Married at Hargham, Norfolk, May 12, 1579, to Alice Rowse (buried at Hargham May 8, 1602), buried at Lopham,

June 18, 1607.

III. Lawrence Womack, B. D., Rector of Lopham, Norfolk, 1607, and of Fersfield, same county, 1642. Married _____. Died July, 1642.

IV. Lawrence Womack, D. D., born in Norfolk, May 12, 1612. Married, 1st _____; married, 2nd, at Westley Bradfor, Nov. 18, 1668, Anne, daughter of John Hill and widow of Edward Aylmer; married, 3rd, at St. Bartholomew-the-Less, London, April 25, 1670, Katherine Corbett, of Norwich. He entered Corpus Christi College, Cambridge 1629, graduated B. A. 1632, ordained deacon 1634, commencing M. A. 1639. Was chaplain to Lord Paget and later had benefice in the west of England. In 1660 was prebend in Herfordshire cathedral. In December 1660 archdeacon of Suffolk. In 1661 degree of D. D. conferred. In 1662 rector of Horningsheath, Suffolk, and also of Boxford in 1663. In the same year installed in prebendal stall in Ely cathedral. In 1683 consecrated Bishop of St. David's. Was a great controversial writer. Died Nov. 7, 1685, buried in St. Margaret's, Westminster.

By first marriage:

V. Edward Womack, born March 12, 1653, died in Suffolk, England, September 8, 1723. Married _____ _____.

VI. Ashby or Abraham Womack, born August 15, 1683. Died in Virginia, February 4, 1756. Came from England to Virginia 1716. Married _____ _____.

VII. Richard Womack, born in England, December 7, 1710. Lived in Prince Edward County, Virginia; moved to Hancock County, Georgia, 1765. Died there July 23, 1785. Married _____ _____.

VIII. Jesse Womack, born in Virginia 1739, died in Madison County, Georgia, 1815. Lived in Burke, Hancock and Madison counties. Married, 1st, Dorothy Prior, and, 2nd, in Georgia about 1778, Phebe _____. Was a Lieutenant in the Revolution. By 1st marriage:

IX. John Womack, born in Georgia, December 25, 1776. Married in Georgia about 1797, Frances Coleman. Moved to Alabama 1800. Lived in Washington County, Alabama. Died at his home there "Womack Hill" July 29, 1848. His widow died in Texas 1852.

X. Aurelia Womack, born February 19, 1804, in Washington Co., Ala. Married Sept. 23, 1827, Isaac Baker. Moved to Texas 1843. Lived in Grimes County at "The Cedars" near Plantersville. Died in Galveston, Texas, February 7, 1881.

XI. Jack Baker, born January 9, 1834, in Washington Co., Ala. Married in Grimes Co., Texas, January 25, 1859, Cordelia Henrietta Albert Forrester. Lived at "The Cedars," Grimes Co. Died there, January 4, 1887.

XII. Searcy Baker, born November 11, 1861. Married in Grimes Co., November 21, 1883, Lida Jane Gibbs. Lives in Houston, Texas.
