Pendleton County

Pendleton County created 7 Mar 1789. Abolished 20 Dec 1826, replaced with Anderson & Pickens counties. For parts of SC history, counties were called Districts. Records for Pendleton County are with Anderson County. Some of the Womacks lived in the part of Pendleton which later became Pickens Co in 1826, then modern Oconee Co in 1868.

Also, 60 acres part of a tract granted John Tarvetor (?) [sic, Tarrwater] and conveyed to Mathew Leadbetter and from Leadbetter to Wm Wamock, from Womack to Ferguson, bd Gray, also, one tact of 120 acres granted Wm Womack, conveyed to Ferguson on Connoross Creek. A few other deeds mention Benjamin Ingram (son of James Ingram, husband of Nancy Womack), James Ingram, Samuel Burton/Barton (son-in-law of James Ingram), Jonathan Kemp and Demcy [sic] Kemp. Jonathan Kemp and James Ingram had adjoining property.

1790 Census of Pendleton

Jacob Womack in district of Capt John Kees, along with James Ingram. James Ingram followed by Joshua Young, possibly related to James’s wife, Catherine Young.

1800 Census,

All families were numbered and divided into regiments.

All families of interest were in Col Kilpatrick’s Regiment, which had 1085 households.
