The Passion Project is your chance to explore something meaningful to YOU and show what you’ve learned this year through independent research, curiosity, and creativity.
You’ll choose ONE of the three options below and complete your project over the next several weeks. All options require research from reliable and varied sources (books, articles, websites, interviews, videos, etc.).
Choose a topic that genuinely interests you—something you've always wanted to understand better. This could be related to science, history, art, social issues, technology, or even a personal hobby.
Your job: Research it deeply, using multiple reliable sources, and then teach us what you learned.
Requirements:
A clear research question or focus
At least 3 different types of reliable sources (ex: article, video, interview, book)
A final product that teaches others about your topic (examples: slideshow, brochure, video, poster, or written report)
A 1-page reflection explaining:
Why you chose the topic
What you learned
Why it matters
Choose a skill you don’t currently have—but want to develop. This could be anything from learning how to cook a meal, change a tire, code a website, play a song, or build something.
Your job: Research how to do it using multiple reliable sources, practice the skill, and document your learning process.
Requirements:
A clear goal or skill to learn
At least 3 different types of reliable sources (ex: tutorial video, expert website, interview, book)
Evidence of progress (photos, videos, notes, journal entries)
A final product that shows what you learned (examples: demonstration video, photo collage, how-to guide)
A 1-page reflection explaining:
What you tried
What challenges you faced
How you overcame them
How this skill might help you in the future
Use your creativity or passion to make something meaningful—or make a difference in your community. This could involve writing a short story, designing art, organizing a fundraiser, volunteering, or starting a small initiative to help others.
Your job: Research how similar projects have been done and gather inspiration and best practices from multiple reliable sources
Requirements:
A clear purpose and vision for what you're creating or contributing
At least 3 different types of reliable sources (ex: interviews, articles, websites, project examples, books)
Documentation of your process (notes, photos, drafts, journal entries, etc.)
A final product that shows your effort and impact (examples: artwork, story, video, blog, event summary, etc.)
A 1-page reflection explaining:
What inspired your idea
How you planned and executed it
What impact it had (or could have)
What you learned along the way
Use reliable, varied sources to support your learning
Stay organized and document your progress
Be original—this is about your interests and effort
