Crafting the Next Streaming Hit
Objective:
Work collaboratively to create a detailed pitch for an original streaming series, including a compelling storyline, vibrant characters, and a sustainable premise that engages audiences over multiple seasons.
Form Groups:
Students will form groups of 3-4 members. Each group will work as a "Writer's Room" to develop a pitch for an original Netflix (or other streaming service) series.
Choose a Genre:
Decide on a primary genre for your series (e.g., drama, comedy, thriller, fantasy, sci-fi, etc.). Blending genres is encouraged!
Develop the Concept:
Brainstorm and outline your series. Be prepared to expand on the following details in your pitch:
Series Title: A catchy or evocative title that reflects the theme and tone of the series.
Synopsis: A concise overview of the storyline and central premise (150-200 words).
Setting: A description of where and when the series takes place. This should contribute to the overall mood and theme.
Ongoing Conflicts: Identify the main conflicts driving the story forward, both overarching (season-long) and episodic.
Characters: Describe the main characters, including their personalities, motivations, relationships, and roles in the series.
Sustainability:
Explain why your series premise has the potential to remain engaging for multiple seasons. Address questions like:
How will the characters grow or evolve over time?
What is the "hook" that will keep audiences invested in the storyline?
Are there mysteries or conflicts that can unfold over several seasons?
