Adjectives

An adjective's job is to modify a noun or pronoun. They are always near the noun or pronoun they are describing.

examples: small, heavy, yellow, many, new, soft

The young boy rode his red bike.

It has been a good day.

The green sweater is on the dirty floor.

Nouns as Adjectives

Nouns can act as adjectives. For example:

paper towels

park bench

math book

English class

In each of the examples above, the underlined word is telling us more about the noun that follows. What kind of towels? PAPER towels. What kind of bench? PARK bench.
