Archaic Diction
Archaic diction, or the use of outdated or old-fashioned language, can be found in various forms of artistic expression, including music and famous speeches.Â
"Greensleeves": This traditional English folk song, believed to date back to the 16th century, contains archaic diction in its lyrics. For example, "Alas, my love, you do me wrong / To cast me off discourteously."
"Henceforth, we shall strive for excellence."
"Thou art the fairest maiden in the land."
"Nay, I shall not yield to such demands."
