UAF's JT Schnering 12th place at National Junior Olympic Rifle Championships

FAIRBANKS — JT Schnering, an Alaska Nanooks freshman and Lathrop High School graduate, holds 12th place after the second day of the men’s 50-meter three position rifle competition in the National Junior Olympic Championships in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Schnering fired a 1,129 score on Tuesday for a two-day total of 2,272. He was 11th place Monday after recording a 1,143 effort.

Delta Junction’s Wesley Patton led the Interior shooters in the 50-meter prone category after shooting a 601.1 Tuesday to give him a two-day total of 1,211.0 for 41st place. Patton shot a 609.9 on Monday, putting him in 27th place.

Lathrop’s Liam Eberhart was in 50th place in the 50-meter prone with a 1,200.7 total after he fired a 610.5 Tuesday. It was more than 20 points higher than his 590.2 effort Monday.

Hutchison’s Mason Falkner sits in 61st place in the 50-meter prone with a 1,184.4 total. He shot a 594.6 Tuesday after shooting a 589.8 Monday.

The top eight overall shooters in the 50-meter prone advanced to today’s finals.

The 50-meter three position also has its finals today but the eight finalists were not announced Tuesday.

Patton didn’t shoot Tuesday in the 50-meter three position after firing a 1,101 Monday. He was listed in 51st place Tuesday.

Falkner was listed at 63rd Tuesday after shooting a 1,076 Monday.

West Valley’s Greg Davis placed 158th in the air rifle, conducted from Friday through Sunday. He registered a 1,161.3 total with a 576.5 in the first round and a 584.8 in the second round.

The women’s Junior Olympics begin Saturday with the three-position match, which will be contested through Sunday.

The air rifle is scheduled for next Monday and Tuesday.

Lathrop’s Kelcy McGrath is entered in the smallbore and she’s joined in air rifle by teammates Malinda Malenfant and Isabel Lesseig. West Valley’s Delaney Reece and Brinley Jarvis also are competing in air rifle in Colorado Springs.
