Patriots, Wolfpack split rifle season opener

FAIRBANKS — The North Pole Patriots and West Valley Wolfpack opened the high school rifle season Saturday by splitting their match at the Alaska Department of Fish and Game Range.

West Valley won the air rifle portion of the match 2,010-1,825, and North Pole won the three-position smallbore event 1,731-1,677.

Nicole Plummer led the Wolfpack air rifle team registering a 567 out of a possible 600. Matthew East put up a 511, followed by Philip Wilson with a 500 and Garrett Sheets with a 437.

Brenna Welch had the top score for West Valley with a 506 and Erika Blanchard notched a 501. Jana Armstrong and Caleb Hall rounded out the Patriots lineup with scores of 435 and 383, respectively.

The Patriots used the same lineup to win the smallbore event. Welch led the team with a 488, while Blanchard recorded a 483, Armstrong had a 468 and Hall notched a 292.

West Valley’s Plummer had the top score of the day with a 516. Wilson posted a 462, Quetzel Luebke-Laroque put up a 375 and Sheets finished with a 324.
