FAIRBANKS—Former Alaska Nanooks shooter Ryan Anderson is part of the 25-person USA Shooting Team that is competing at the Pan American Games, which begin today in Toronto.

The air rifle portion of the games take place on Monday, while the three-position matches are scheduled for July 19 at the Toronto International Trap and Skeet Club.

Anderson, from Great Falls, Virginia, is one of two U.S. shooters who will be competing in the men’s three position. The other shooter is George Norton, who is a member of the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit.

Anderson is one of three Pan American Games shooters who competed at the 2015 NCAA Championships in March at the University of Alaska Fairbanks Patty Center. Anderson is joined by Kentucky’s Connor Davis and Texas Christian University’s Hannah Black.

Olympic shooters Michael McPhail and Amanda Furrer are also competing at the games for Team USA.

At least two former Nanooks have won medals at past Pan Am Games. Matt Rawlings won a gold medal in air rifle at 2011 games and Melissa Mulloy-Mecozzi, who is now the head coach at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, won a silver medal in 2003.
