Nanooks fall at Nebraska on tie-breaker

FAIRBANKS — The Alaska Nanooks tied the Nebraska Cornhuskers in Sunday’s college rifle match in Lincoln, Neb., but the Cornhuskers won the tie-breaker.
Both teams shot 4,641, but the Cornhuskers won the match tie-breaker (most center shots) 255-249.
Alaska won the smallbore portion of the match 2,302-2,998, while Nebraska captured the air rifle event 2,344-2,339.
Sophomore Ryan Anderson led the scoring Nanooks with a 577, followed by Mats Eriksson and Mike Liuzza, both at 576, Tim Sherry with a 573 and Cole Bures with a 571.
Alaska’s Soren Butler posted a match-high 581, but he wasn’t on the scoring team chosen by coach Dan Jordan.
Nebraska’s top shooter was Kate Woltersdorf with a 580.
Anderson also had the top air rifle score for the Nanooks with a 586. Eriksson notched a 585, followed by Bures and Liuzza at 584 and Butler with a 583. Sherry registered a non-scoring 581.
Nebraska was led by Denise Martin with a 588.
The Nanooks next match is their home opener against the University of Texas El Paso on Nov. 3.
