FAIRBANKS — Alaska Nanooks All-American Tim Sherry placed sixth overall Friday in the men’s 50-meter, three-position match at the inaugural International Shooting Sport Federation Junior Cup.

Sherry, a mechanical engineering major from Highlands Ranch, Colorado, and the only American in the competition in Suhl, Germany, fired an 1,166 total during the 120-shot (3x40) to position himself as the third seed for the final.

“Competing in Germany with the best junior shooters in the world was a new and exciting experience,” Sherry, the reigning NCAA smallbore champion, said in a University of Alaska Fairbanks press release. “I learned a lot over here and I’m ready to use that knowledge in upcoming matches this summer and next season.”

Russia’s Vladimir Maslennikov, who was one point behind Sherry in the qualifying matches, won the final.

Six countries were represented in the final — the United States, Russia, Germany, Finland, Austria and Denmark.

Sherry, who’s entering his junior season for the Nanooks, competed in the prone and air rifle matches in Suhl earlier this week.

In the 50-meter prone event, he finished 27th overall among 70 shooters after firing a 60-shot score of 614.6, which fell 5.4 points short of qualifying for the final.

He placed 44th out of 94 shooters in the 10-meter air rifle match with a qualifying score of 611.5 in 60 shots.
