No. 2 Nanooks rifle team beats Buckeyes

FAIRBANKS — Led by Ryan Anderson and Tim Sherry, the No. 2 Alaska Nanooks rifle team downed No. 9 Ohio State 4,687-4,648 Saturday in their first match at the E.F. Horton Rifle Range since Nov. 24.

The Nanooks won smallbore 2,345-2,309 and air rifle 2,342-2,339.

All of the Nanooks shooters in smallbore posted higher scores than the Buckeyes top shooter Amanda Luoma, who shot 583. Anderson and Lorelie Stanfield led the way, each shooting a 588.

Mats Erickson shot a 585 while Sherry added a 584.

After Luoma, the Buckeyes saw Remington Lyman shoot 582 and Deanna Binney shoot 576. Greg Hagara added a 568.

In air rifle, it was Luoma who led all shooters. She shot 590, one point higher than Sherry, the Nanooks top shooter. Mike Liuzza and Mats Eriksson each shot 585 for the Nanooks while Anderson added a 583.

Following Luoma for the Buckeyes, Lyman shot 589, Anthony Cuozza shot 584 and Deanna Binney shot 576.

The Buckeys shoot against the Citadel at 9 a.m. today at the E.F. Horton Rifle Range. The Nanooks will take on The Citadel at 9 a.m. Monday at the E.F. Horton Rifle Range.
