Patriots eke out win over Wolfpack at rifle range

FAIRBANKS — Led by personal bests by Taylor Armstrong and Caleb Simmons, North Pole squeaked out a 2,087-2,085 air rifle victory over West Valley on Saturday at the E.F. Horton Rifle Range.

The Wolfpack won smallbore 1,909-1,890.

Simmons’ personal best of 532 led the Patriots in air rifle while Armstrong followed close behind with a personal best of 531. Andrew Accola shot 513 and Zach Andrews added a 511 for the Patriots.

The Wolfpack were led by Phillip Wilson, who shot 537 in air rifle. Garrett Sheets followed with a 525. Cassie Poulson shot a 515 for the Wolfpack and Quetzal Luebke-Laroque shot 508.

Sheets led all shooters by shooting a 495 in smallbore. He was followed by Luebke-Laroque at 485 and Wilson at 483. Poulson also shot a 446 for the Wolfpack.

The Patriots were led by Andrews, who shot a 492 in smallbore. Mitch Durant was second on the Patriots with a 473, followed by Armstrong at 466 and Accola at 459.

The Mid Alaska Conference Rifle Championships are Dec. 13-14 at the E.F. Horton Rifle Range at the Patty Center.
