FAIRBANKS — The Alaska Nanooks rifle team will hit the road three times and host the defending NCAA champion Kentucky Wildcats during the 2011-12 season, coach Dan Jordan announced last week.

The 10-time NCAA champion Nanooks will attempt to improve on a sixth-place finish at 2011 NCAA Championships in March.

The Nanooks’ first home match will come after the team has shot six road matches. Alaska entertains Kentucky and the Air Force Academy 18-20 at the E.F. Horton Range in the Patty Center.

The Nanooks will shoot against Air Force on Nov. 18 and Kentucky on Nov. 20. Kentucky and Air Force will compete in a neutral-site match Nov. 19.

The Nanooks’ season begins with a three-match road trip to the University of Mississippi on Oct. 5, Tennessee-Martin on Oct. 7 and Murray State on Oct. 8.

The Nanooks hit the road again later in the month to shoot against Texas-El Paso and Nevada-Reno on Oct. 29-30, then finish the trip at 2010 NCAA champion Texas Christian on Nov. 1.

After their home matches in November, Alaska hits the road to the East Coast in January with matches at The Citadel on Jan. 17, Navy on Jan. 19 and 14-time NCAA champion West Virginia on Jan. 21.

The Nanooks close out the regular season hosting Jacksonville State in a pair of NCAA qualifying matches on Feb. 16 and 18.

The 2012 NCAA Rifle Championships are March 8-10 at a site to be determined.
