FAIRBANKS — In the early part of the season, Ohio State rifle senior Amanda Luoma wasn’t shooting the way she would have liked to, Buckeyes head coach Ryan Tanoue said.

At the E.F. Horton Rifle Range on Sunday, Luoma came through. She shot a personal best 594 in air rifle and a 583 in smallbore to lead the No. 9 Buckeyes past The Citadel’s mixed team and women’s team.

“She’s really stepped up here the last couple of matches,” Tanoue said of Luoma. “Yesterday and today we got to see her perform at the level she’s capable of.”

Luoma shot a 590 in air rifle and a 583 in smallbore Saturday against the Alaska Nanooks. The Nanooks won the match 4,687-4,648.

The Buckeyes shot 4,666 as a team while the Bulldogs mixed team shot 4,438 and women’s team shot 4,206.

“As compared to yesterday we’re a a little bit better in terms of trajectory score,” Tanoue said before the final relay of the day.

Greg Hagar was second on the Buckeyes in air rifle with 588, followed by Remington Lyman at 586. Anthony Cuozza rounded out the Buckeyes air rifle score with a 583.

In smallbore, Luoma and Cuozza tied for the team-lead with a 583. Lyman followed at 580 and Hagar shot 569.

Robby Jackson led the Bulldogs mixed team with a 574 in air rifle, followed by Richard Hunton at 564. Nathaniel Moy shot 562 and Charles Yeh added a 556.

Moy led the way in smallbore with a 550 with Hunton finishing second on the team with a 548. Yeh shot 544 and Jackson finished with a 540.

The Bulldogs women’s team was led by Teddi Haliscak, who shot a 557 in air rifle and a 523 in smallbore. Ashten Byrne followed with a 554 in air rifle. Margaret Lariviere shot a 539 and Amber Mills rounded out the Bulldogs air rifle score with a 537.

Haliscak shot 523 in smallbore, Lariviere shot 512, Byrne shot 499 and Mills finished at 485.

This is the Buckeyes first trip to Alaska and they’re making sure to do see as much as they can. But they are a little disappointed in the weather.

“We were a little disappointed,” Deanna Binnie said. “We expected it be in the negatives but it wasn’t.”

There’s was one thing that Binnie wanted to do but didn’t around too.

“I wanted to go dog sledding, like so bad,” Binnie said. “Maybe next time.”

The Bulldogs face the Nanooks at 9 a.m. today at the E.F. Horton Rifle Range.
