Lathrop's JT Schnering takes 22nd at Junior Olympic air rifle championships

FAIRBANKS—JT Schnering sat in 29th after the first round of air rifle at the USA Shooting National Junior Olympic Rifle Championships on Friday.

Behind a 607.3 score on Saturday, the Lathrop shooter finished 22nd with a total score of 1,214.6 in the 195-person match at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Schnering’s top-25 showing led a group of eight Interior shooters at the championships. Schnering’s Lathrop teammate Connor Gilman fired a 604.1 on Saturday to finished 47th overall with a two-day score of 1,202.4.

Liam Eberhart, another member of the Lathrop rifle team, finished just outside the top-50 with a 52nd place finish. Eberhart shot a 606.3 on Saturday to finish with a final score of 1,199.7.

North Pole’s Zachary Andrews finished in 85th after shooting a 594.3 on Saturday and a two-day score of 1,184. Hutchison’s Charlie McNeill took 120th with a 1,171.7 after shooting a 589.5 on Saturday.

Delta Junction had two shooters finish less than a point apart. Miles Patton shot a 583.4 on Saturday to finish with a 1,159.1, good for 154th. Alex Matthews’ score of 570.7 on Saturday gave him a total scored on 1,158.3, good for 158th.

Hutchison’s Mason Falkner rounded out the Interior shooters, finishing 180th with a two-day score of 1,144.7. Falkner shot a 560.1 on Saturday.

The championships continue today with the smallbore competition, which runs through Tuesday.
