Ryan Anderson, Tim Sherry remain in top 10 at the USA Shooting Smallbore Olympic Team Trials

FAIRBANKS — Tim Sherry and Ryan Anderson are separated by just three points in fifth and sixth place at the USA Shooting Smallbore Olympic Team Trials in Columbus, Georgia.

Sherry, an Alaska Nanooks senior, fired a 1,163 in the second round of shooting on Thursday and holds a two-day score of 2,326. Anderson, a former Nanooks shooter, shot a 1,159 on Thursday and sits at 2,323 after two days.

The trials conclude today. Former Nanook Matt Emmons has already secured a spot on Team USA’s smallbore team for the Rio de Janeiro Olympics in August.

Sherry and Anderson both qualified for the finals on Thursday. Sherry fired a 393.0 in the finals while Anderson finished at 443.7.

Sherry, from Highlands Ranch, Colorado, sat in fourth place after Wednesday’s opening round of shooting. Sherry shot a 1,158 on Wednesday.

Anderson shot a 1,155 on Wednesday to begin the competition in sixth place.

George Norton and Dempster Christenson are tied for first at 2,351. Norton fired a 1,175 on Thursday after shooting a 1,163 on Wednesday.

Christenson held the lead after shooting a 1,173 on Wednesday but shot a 1,164 on Thursday to fall back into a tie with Norton.
