Fairbanks shooters get second at state championship

FAIRBANKS — Despite John Schnering shooting a 578 and Amy Gentry shooting a 577, the Midnight Sun Sharpshooters fell to the Borealis Bullseyes Magenta team by six points at the 2014 CMP Three-Position Air Rifle State Championship on Saturday at East Anchorage High School.

The Bullseyes Magenta team scored 2,285 to the Midnight Sun’s 2,279.

Patrick Casey shot 574 for Midnight Sun and Liam Eberhart added a 550.

The Bullseyes Magenta was led by Cathryn Papasodora, who led all shooters with a 585. Tristan Henderson followed with a 574 and Marina Noble shot 568. Logan Hanscom rounded out the Bullseyes Magenta with 558.

The Midnight Sun’s second team, led by Connor Gilman, finished fourth of the five teams with a combined score of 2,087. Gilman shot 575 followed by Katlyn Lammers at 513. Jennifer Merrion shot 511 and Mason Falkner added a 488.

The Bullseyes Teal team finished third with a score 2,210. Jacob Nall led the Teal team with a 557.

The Bullseyes Lime team came in fourth with a score of 2,055, led by Adam Cusack’s 538.

The Bullseyes Magenta team now advances to the CMP Regional Championship in Layton, Utah, for a chance to go to the national championship.
