Region VI Prep High School Rifle Championships

Led by Kasey Barnes and Connor Gilman, the Lathrop Malemutes have held the lead in the Mid Alaska Conference Rifle Championships after the first day.

The Malemutes shot 2,252 in air rifle and hold a 29 point lead over second place Hutchison. Delta sits in third at 2,139 with West Valley in fourth at 2,070. North Pole shot 2,052 and Tok finished air rifle at 2,035.

Barnes led all shooters by shooting 577 in air rifle. Gilman followed with a 566 as the Malemutes had three of the top five counting scores Friday at the E.F. Horton Rifle Range.

JT Schnering was the other Malemute in the top five, shooting a 556. Casey Barnes finished eighth overall with a 553 to round out the Malemutes team score.

Chloe Allan, a Malemute alternate, finished second overall with a score of 568, but her score was not a part of the Malemutes team score.

Amy Gentry finished fourth overall and led Hutchison with a 556. Gabe Stutz’s 554 was good for seventh overall, while Garret Snyder shot a 553 to finish ninth.

Charlie McNeill rounded out the Hawks’ team score, shooting a 550.

Delta was led by Zoey Hensley, who finished eighth with a 554. Alex Matthews finished just outside the top 10 at 11th with 552, tied with teammate Jakob Schautt. Kael Knight added a 481 for Delta.

Garrett Sheets led West Valley by shooting a personal-best 544. Cassie Poulsen finished at 538, followed by Phillip Wilson at 531. Greg Davis shot 457 for West Valley.

North Pole’s Zachary Andrews led the Patriots with a 547, followed by Taylor Armstrong at 525. Mitch Durrant added a 508 and Noah Scheff shot 473.

Ariel Brooks led Took with a personal best 539. Huck Woody added a 513 while Annie Sanford shot 495 and Madison Tito shot 488.

The shooting continues at 9 a.m. today at the E.F. Horton Rifle Range. They cease fire at 4:45 p.m. and awards will be presented at 5:15 p.m.
