Prep rifle season is under way

FAIRBANKS — High school rifle season is under way. Lathrop and Hutchison squared off in their first match of the season this past week at the Alaska Department of Fish and Game. Hutchison won the air rifle event 2189-2177 while Lathrop took the smallbore event 2132-2059.

Amy Gentry led Hutchison in the air rifle event, posting a personal best 582. Lathrop’s Kasey Barnes recorded the second highest score at 578.

Lathrop recorded the two highest scores in the smallbore match. Liam Eberhart led the way at 549, followed by teammate Connor Gilman at 543.

Delta Junction hosts Tok and North Pole

Delta Junction, Tok, and North Pole gathered at Delta’s Sportsman’s Club for their first match of the season. Delta won the smallbore match with a score of 1806. North Pole (1797) followed in second and then Tok (1681) in third. A combined Delta/Tok team won air rifle, defeating North Pole 1060-1931.

Alex Matthews led the way for Delta in the smallbore event, shooting 502. He was followed closely by Jakob Shautt, who shot a 490. Zachary Andrews had a team-high of 467 for North Pole and Huck Woody led Tok with a 465.

In the air rifle match, Matthews and Shautt again were the leaders, this time leading the combined Delta/Tok team. Shautt had a match-high 549, while Matthews shot 533. Taylor Armstrong led North Pole with a 493.
