Congrats to Chuck Herbert for winning the first Highpower Rifle match of the summer at Ft. Wainwright on 5 Jun 11. We had 13 shooters including one Tactical Rifle and one F-Class shooter. We couldn’t have asked for a nicer day. Temps were nice although the wind picked up later in the day. This made the 600 yd line interesting, but it did keep the mosquitoes at bay.
This day also marked our first Vintage As-Issued Military Rifle Match at Ft. Wainwright . We used the John Garand Match Course A at 200 yds on SR targets. This was down right fun and we actually saw scores improve in general from the 100 yd matches. Doug Albright won that with a 283-8X. Let’s plan on doing this again at the next match.
I’d like to encourage more of our local shooters to come out and shoot at the longer distances. It does make for a longer and more challenging day, but we try to keep things moving along. On Sunday we were complete with the HP match at 1:30 pm and were cleaned up after the Vintage Match by 3:30 pm. If you have any questions don’t hesitate to e-mail 21milegunclub@gmail.com or just come out and watch part of a match.
As a reminder, this is the heart of shooting season in AK. This weekend is the Regional at Anchorage , next weekend is the Long Range at Ft. Greely , then our next matches are 25/26 Jun. We’ll have a Mid-Range Prone match on Sat, 25 Jun. This is meant to be a 3-gun event with unlimited sighters and 20 rounds for record at 600 yds prone. We’ll do that three times. On Sunday, we’ll have an 80-shot NRA Approved HP match and a Vintage As-Issued Military Rifle Match to follow.
Hope to see you there.
