Lathrop's JT Schnering just misses out on top 10 finish at USA Shooting Junior Olympic Shooting Championships

FAIRBANKS — JT Schnering just missed out on a top-10 finish in the air rifle event at the USA Shooting Junior Olympic Shooting Championships on Sunday in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Schnering, an Alaska Nanooks freshman and former Lathrop shooter, finished the two-day competition with a score of 1,225.3, good for 11th place and 1.1 points out of 10th.

Schnering fired a 614.8 on the first day of shooting on Saturday before shooting a 610.5 on Sunday.

The men’s air rifle competition featured 187 shooters.

Lathrop’s Liam Eberhart took 77th in air rifle, firing a two-day score of 1,191.4. Eberhart began the competition with a 588.5 on Saturday before firing a 602.9 on Sunday.

Delta Junction's Miles Patton finished 154th. Patton shot a 590.5 on Saturday and a 574.1 on Sunday, giving him a final score of 1,164.6.

Hutchison’s Mason Falkner took 168th with a total score of 1,152.8. Falkner shot a 573.9 on Saturday and a 578.9 on Sunday.

The junior Olympics continue today with the men’s three-position and prone position matches. Both matches are scheduled to run through Wednesday.

The women’s three-position match is set for April 16-17, followed by the women’s air rifle on April 18-19.
