2.9 Design for Manufacture

By the end of this unit you should have developed a knowledge and understanding of:

• the importance of planning for accuracy when making prototypes

• quality control including the monitoring, checking and testing of components, equipment and products to ensure they conform to acceptable tolerances

• the importance of planning for accuracy when making recommendations for various scales of production

• quality assurance procedures put in place to reduce waste and ensure products are manufactured accurately

• quality control systems such as go/no go gauges and non-destructive testing
