For Paper 1, there is always ONE question to answer with 8 parts (a) - (g).
You should answer question 1 parts a-g only.
You should work through the guidance document on the pages that are linked below to see the breakdown of each question and the types of response you will need to provide. There are some practice questions to attempt as well as the guidance information about the awarding of marks and your use of time in the examination.
The Past Papers are complete with 'model' answers. These are provided so that you can see the type and nature of response expected to help you to prepare and see how you could access the highest marks. Also note that in sketched responses there are many ways to sketch and present ideas and the ones shown are just an example that would score highly.
Pencil (blue or normal) - ideally a mechanical pencil
Pencil sharpener - your pencil lines should always be sharp
2 black fine line pens - ideally 0.3mm and 0.8mm. You gain marks for adding fine line pen to your sketched responses
An eraser
A ruler - ideally 300mm in length
Coloured pencils - to add tone / shading / improved communication to your sketches if you have time. You can gain marks!
Question details
You should only answer one question only and probably usually Question 1.
The question has 7 parts (a - g) — this is always the case every year
The total marks for the paper is 50 marks
Some questions are worth considerably more marks than others and you need to try and apportion your time appropriately = 50 marks in 90 minutes i.e. a) 4 marks - so spend no longer than 5 minutes; C) 12 marks - approx. 15 - 20 minutes etc.
Some parts of questions are easier than others. (A), (C), (D) are all a bit easier
The first question is always about the Function of a product and creating some Specification points. If the question is worth 4 marks, then you will have 4 explained / rationalised points.
It is important that you answer in short sentences and NOT bullet point answer!!
