Resin Poured Lamp Project

Resin pouring mixed with an exotic timber has become very popular and fashionable over the last few years. As developments with resin have progressed more 'glass / clear' resins have allowed greater experimentation with what can be done, along with the further developments of the pigments (colours) and different effects. Below are a few examples of poured resin products.

For this project you will learn how to mix, pour, and colour 'crystal ice' resin and then combine it with an exotic native Thailand hardwood timber to create a stylish, effective and quite beautiful resin poured table lamp. The same skills you will learn in this project can be 'scaled up' to make yourself (or someone else) a coffee table, dining table, jewelry etc. etc.

You will also learn how to join (solder) electronic components together using a micro USB board, an On/Off switch, an (optional)  rechargeable battery, a super bright LED or super thin flexible diode strip and connecting wires; and create a decorative lamp shade (see below) to add even more aesthetic beauty and interest to your lamp design.

How you will communicate all of your work

We would like you to communicate and present all of your work on your D&T Website (Site). All of the images and buttons below will take you to a webpage that explains what you will do for each area of your website. The reason you are using a website is to show every stage, decision and details you make in designing and creating your resin poured lamp. This creates a portfolio of work, much like an IGCSE D&T project.
