The next skill is to take the 2D sketched shape and translate it into a 3D form, using Onshape or another 3D CAD software. We will start with the Basic shapes sheet that you have done and you will need to use your scanned version of this sheet to then model in 3D. Your teacher will demonstrate how to import your scanned work into Onshape and then use that to resize (Calibrate) and model around. If you click the button below this will take you to some video tutorials.
The first task is to transfer your 2D basic shapes rendered sheet into Onshape by 'Adding an Image' onto the sketched plane. You will need to use the Revolve features for all of the forms except for the blocks. Click the button below to see videos on how to do this.Â
Once you have modelled all of the basic 2D shapes you need change the appearance to Hidden Edges Removed and also turn on the Perspective view. Make the 3D forms as big as possible on your page and then screenshot to share with Procreate (via AIrdrop). You will then marker render the 3D forms as though you have sketched them in 3D!
This video demonstrates how to get your completed 3D forms from Onshape and share to an iPad.
Using the Real Marker add 2 layers of Grey marker to each of the shapes. Change the 'tone' of the marker to be slightly darker for your 2nd layer.
On a new layer add another darker tone of grey marker to create more depth to the shapes.
Add some airbrush shadows around the outrside of the shapes. You will need to create a mask of the shapes and invert the mask to do this.
Sketch a background shape(s)
Fill the shape using a neutral colour or complimentary colour that works with the grey marker. You will need to use the mask tool to do this.
Add more shadows around all of the shapes and onto the background images also.
This is the challenge.
